The surprise of GreenRoom’s launch on June 16th was met with a lot of questions whether Clubhouse is on the demise… At least within my own head. LOL.
If you have ZERO clue what I’m talking about whatsoever, in the Social Space, Live Audio platforms have been on the rise – Clubhouse being the first of its kind. To no surprise, Clubhouse was wildly popular due to the FOMO marketing & slim availability of ‘invites’ to even get on the app while in beta.
You can read more about Clubhouse here.
I’ve also linked a bunch of relevant articles so you can read up on it yourself, too. This blog has a summation of key points I’ve learned thus far.

What is GreenRoom?
GreenRoom is Spotify’s Live Audio app competitor of Clubhouse. Spotify acquired the sports live audio app LockerRoom & has since used it’s initial coding as framework for their direct competitor to Clubhouse. Spotify’s ownership of the podcasting app Anchor also allows for immense content repurposing due to some amazing features that are unique to GreenRoom! I’ll get to that in a second…

What is a Live Audio App?
Before I dive deeper into the interesting pieces about GreenRoom & if it’s for you, let’s talk about what Live Audio really means. The best analogy I’ve been using is: Think of hosting a podcast, live, where your audience can participate & ask questions live. That’s the best explanation of Live Audio.
Until GreenRoom, there was no actual easy way (without additional wires, devices, & apps) to record your audio from your Live room & repurpose it. & If you know anything about me, you know that I am ALL ABOUT REPURPOSING!
What are the differences between Clubhouse & GreenRoom?
While they resemble each other in the structure of the apps, both containing ‘rooms’, ‘hallways’, ‘speakers’, the ‘mute-unmute’ clap, the ‘invite on stage’, ‘stage’, ‘audience’… there are some major differences:
- Ability to get a recording of your room!
- Live Text Chat during your room
- Ability to share LIVE links within your bio & the chat (lower character limit than Instagram Bio, FYI. utilizing bitly & a links landing page may be a beneficial thing for you.)
- Ability to give ‘gems’ to speakers (no monetary value as of yet. Just a cool way to show appreciation to the speakers. you can give 1 per speaker per every 5 minutes)
Now, we know Clubhouse is still in Beta testing phase, & you do have the ability to directly pay creators now thanks to the Clubhouse – Stripe connection (on some accounts) which is something GreenRoom doesn’t have, at least yet… I’m curious to hear what you think about this rise of GreenRoom & what that means for the future of Clubhouse…
Should you/your business be on GreenRoom?
I call this my ‘lawyer answer’… IT DEPENDS.
As a content consultant & business coach for entrepreneurs, I focus the most on maximizing your efforts & not spreading yourself too thin, stressing yourself out, or overwhelming you… so, here’s some things to consider…
GreenRoom IS FOR YOU IF:
You have a Podcast & have been wanting an easy way for your audience + loyal listeners to tune in, ask live questions & be more of an integrated part of your Podcast community.
You already use Clubhouse & would benefit from the ability to repurpose your gems you drop on the platform (or even just go back & remember wtf you said to create an instagram post!)
You are a loyal listener of podcasts that you’d like to participate in. (A GREAT HACK TO INCREASE VISIBILITY for yourself & your biz!)
You cater to an audience that would benefit from a live chat feature. (this brings back chatroom vibes & aol instant messenger LOL. But I’m specifically speaking to the hearing impaired communities & even introverts that might be too shy to show up on stage & speak but would feel comfortable to be active in the chat.)
GreenRoom is NOT for you if:
You are prone to sensory overload. The ability of the added chat feature during the live audio can be overwhelming. The most recently sent message will load at the bottom of your screen while you are in the Room. If this is a lot for you, you could consider locking your screen or just flipping your phone over so you aren’t overwhelmed. There ARE some rooms that do not turn this feature on, too.
You just aren’t interested in Live Audio apps. Good for you knowing & respecting your boundaries!
Will you be using GreenRoom for yourself or your business?
Based on my business values & what makes me Wildly Me (shoutout to my Wildly You branding 😉), I find that GreenRoom aligns impeccably with my goals & what modes of content I thrive in.
I’ve taken a deep dive into learning my Human Design & how it can help my business + my clients. It was no surprise to me that audio platforms & the ability for people to hear me off the cuff speak about what I’m passionate about was best for me. Plus, the fact that GreenRoom makes it easy to repurpose when that is the backbone of my teachings to clients, it was a no brainer for me.
It will be interesting to see how this app matures & what content is shared.
What are you going to be deciding? Will you be joining me on GreenRoom?
