*Guest’s Name*
Allison Scholes
*Your kids names & ages*
Jacob, 15
Michael, 12
*How we met (what guest remembers)*
We connected on Instagram! We both have a passion for helping moms build their passion on social media!
*Your official work job, what you do. (From home? From office?)*
I’m a Podcaster and Photographer. I help mompreneurs build their brand online in just minutes a day — even when those minutes are hard to come by. I work from home in my tiny corner of my bedroom (ha-ha.) I dream of my own Photography/Podcast Studio one day!
*How’s life different now that you’re a mom*
I’ve been a mom a long time, but growing a business and balancing motherhood is ONE BIG task, but I wouldn’t have it any other day, even when I’m sick of listening to SpongeBob or The Amazing World of Gumball in the background. Being present with my kids is why I’m building my business, and I know other mom’s want the same thing!
*What’s your favorite part about being a mom*
I love watching their personalities evolve. The older they get, the more you see yourself in them. You don’t think you’re making a big impact on them sometimes, but you are! It’s the small details…like their laugh or the way they use their hands. I feel like I’m looking in a mirror! It’s rewarding and a lesson. It encourages me to be a better and kind person because they’ll mimic that.
*Best hilarious story from your kids*
During a vacation to Florida, my youngest was 4-years-old, and loved anything that sparkled, shiny and colorful. Well, while at the resort pool a beautiful women was sun bathing and had a sparkly, shiny bikini on and her top had sparkly embellishments. My unapologetic, honest, curious son walked right over to her, hovered over her top region, pointed to the sparkles and yelled, “I LIKE THAT!”
You can imagine the embarrassment from me!
*A ‘squishy’ moment (good great and icky)*
A moment that changed my direction — I worked as a teacher. At the time my youngest was in 2nd grade, I was working as a part-time substitute teacher. One morning when I was dropping him off at the sitters, he frowned and said, “Mom, I wish you could drive me to school every day!” THAT moment changed me. I vowed I wouldn’t return the following year as a teacher and I didn’t. I figured out how I would work from home and build a business!
*Share how mommin has made you better at what you do/ specific topic guest wants to talk about*
No matter what you do, you have to clearly define your Personal Brand. If you don’t know who you are or what you stand for, no one will. Building your personal brand is crucial to building your business. People buy from people, not businesses! To stand out in this world, you need to position your brand and be memorable.
*What do you do for self care?*
So this is cool. I’m trying a whole new way of working! Have you heard the 50/25/25 system. I read about it in the book, Badass Your Brand, and they have their business set up as 2 weeks out of the month is set for all business, 1 week is Personal Development and 1 week of WHATEVER! I’m implementing this and I’m excited! It’s laser focused, it’s intentional and it leaves room for JUST ME which will make me a better mom and business owner.
But I do love reading, shopping at Target, having special date nights with the hubby!
*Biggest tip about being a working mom for other working moms*
Time blocking is EVERYTHING! I’m super intentional with my time. I only pick 1-2 big priorities for the week with a few small things. EVERYTHING is written in my planner.
